BLACK - B&W Film Emulator App Reviews

Delightful and intuitive

It doesnt do as much as some photo editing apps but what it does, it does well. Manual edits (fade, vignette, & curves - all of which have a different (& easy to use) UI from most apps - require an IAP, but at only $.99 (in the U.S.) its hardly even pocket change. I hear about the app from Erin Brooks (erinbrooks dot me) and it was an instant search and get (then buy) for me.

Decided to crash every time I saved

I do not know why. Useless.

Skip it

Better apps for b&w. Poor resolution for saving. Also, iPad compatible really means, looks like crap on iPad.

Awesome

Love the app... I dont know why all that crying about.! Must be some people from other developers :-/ 5 stars. If you like BW work, just get it... Price seems like drooped a buck!

Its great!

App does what it promises. I had NO loss of resolution to my exported images. The filters are amazing! The app has never crashed. I like it. I use it!

Perfect for B&W enthusiasts

Well, I loaded a photo and went right to TRI-X 400, my film of choice a million years ago, and it looked EXACTLY as I thought it should. The presets are great. I happily paid a buck for manual adjustments. I still wanted a bit more control and so did final adjustments in another app, but in short, Im in love with this app and give a sincere thanks to the developer, who obviously loves old black and white film as much as I do!

What the heck?

When I launch this app, I see a screen that tells me to add pictures but there is no interface to do so. I have swiped, pinched, uninstalled and reinstalled the app but I cant get it to do anything. Cant figure out what Im doing wrong n

Best black and white film emulator!!

First off lets talk about exported resolution, the people that are saying photos are exported in low resolution are wrong. This app has some incredible black-and-white filters, plus the app itself is well-made. In most cases I think theyre black and white filters are better than Vsco.

Lots of promise - a couple requests

Ive used this app for quite a while so I finally paid for the upgrade to use the fade, curves, and vignette. The app renders some unique and pleasant results for B/W emulation with a few small caveats... In the next update it would be great to see: - A/B control of "original photo to filtered photo" - a press and hold on the photo within the app would be preferred. - MORE FILM EMULATIONS PLEASE!!! The existing filters are great but theyre limited. Would nice to have more options. - Fade works great, but Curves and Vignette in particular need a little attention to be more user friendly and useful. i.e. When using vignette - its not engaged until you tap on the screen and move it around a little. This makes no sense. In addition the fine controls for vignette are clumsy and make rendering a proper vignette a pain in the butt. Would also like to see a center focus feature to accompany vignette to help illuminate the center of the photo. Lastly, curves is pretty much fine but a "hide feature would be great so that the results of your adjustments could be more easily seen & it would also be nice to have a clear all feature to remove all nodes. - Last request would be to have a feature that allows the easy removal of a vignette or fade with the tap of a button, like clear or something if you change your mind. Awesome app overall just needs a little fine tuning.

Im impressed

One of the best apps for photo editing on WP and IOS

Great effects!

Please allow non-destructive saving to the camera roll or add the ability to use as an extension.

Overall a Good Performer

Tried this for the first time today, very realistic film-based preset effects. The app saves at full resolution, 24.2mp tested on iPadAir, without difficulty. There are no ads, and a single IAP for the manual controls, which you can try first to see their effect; a very nice set of controls, and well worth the $.99 IAP. Overall, the app produces excellent results, and with high resolution saves, this one is a keeper. Just wish it was Universal, or at least a separate iPad version.

Eh..

The in-app photo library is extremely annoying, and the photo editing controls are very anemic. At least it has a curves adjustment, but for a black and white specific application it is missing a lot of needed features.

Excellent app. Film simulations are well done and organic. I hope the developers can provide even more film choices and a broader selection of post processing tools(channels, sharpening etc). This would make it even more of a one stop photo editor. That said, it still has become one of my go to apps.

Unique

great for editing pictures in bnw, id recommend you to give it a try!

Love it this far…

Gorgeous app. Simple and elegant. Im hoping for more filters and such in future updates. A quick look before and after would the one thing it doesnt seem to have that it could use, perhaps I just missed it.
