BLACK - B&W Film Emulator App Reviews

You want stuff, you gotta pay.

Stop whining, you baby, and pay the $1.99 out of your diaper money, so the author will write more cool apps. Whats a dollar ninety nine? I paid just to see if I liked the app!

$1.99 isnt free!

You can download this app if you really like deleting things. Terrible App! You download, use the app, get you picture just the way you like it and BAM, $1.99 to store the picture. $1.99 isnt free.

A decent app

Downloaded this as I do free photo apps that are new to the App Store to try them out. The features were decent, but the same effects can be done on actual free apps like Aviary, VSCO cam, etc. I was bummed to see the app wants $1.99 to save photos. I wouldnt mind that if it was just listed as a paid app in the first place instead of being under free. Suffice to say, I wasnt impressed enough to pay and deleted the app. Ah well.

Not free at all

Zero functionality without paying

Deception

Should have just stated it will cost a $1.99 to really get true functionality of this app.

not that good

Why does it cost 1.99 for basic editing? Ever thing should just be free. Im disappointed in this app

Not at all an impressive app

First of all, as others have mentioned, it is really not free if you want to do anything more than play with settings. To save a photo and look at it outside the App would cost $1.99. Not that $1.99 is a lot of money, buy giving you a very limited # of film types and having you purchase the remaining complete pack would make more sense. More importantly its pretty much just junk. Anyone familiar with the films being emulated, knows the emulations are pretty much worthless. Additionally the controls are limited and not well implemented. There are other apps for free that have better implement as well as paid apps you may already own. This app needs to be reworked and a better in-app purchase model implemented in order to be recommended. For now, avoid and dont waste your time with this poorly done and not free app.

Garbage

Another piece of garbage app with a hidden call to buy button. If you want to keep your resulting edit you just wasted your time tweaking, gotta pay up! Stick with VSCO. Although their mobile filters are named differently than the desktop version, at least they come a whole lot closer to true "film emulation." TBH, the stock iOS photo app is levels ahead - and curves too.

NOT FREE!

Why do developers post apps as being free? Be honest. This one is ok and really not worth the $. Especially when you can download and use Photoshop for free.

Nice UI, great looking results

This app delivers some of the best black and white images Ive seen on iOS. The UI is opinionated, and thats a good thing. Would love to see more features added in future to make this a full blown editor.

And then

And then you have to pay $1.99 to SAVE the picture... Haha

The truth about this app

This app has a few poor reviews and I completely disagree with each one. The app is great, and the pictures do save to your camera roll if you choose (without you having to pay). It has an easy to use interface unlike some apps which you cant navigate around easily. Overall its a genius idea because black and white pictures never go out of style. ;)

realy cool

i love black. nice UI. nice apps. so sad why isnt 1.99?

$1,99 isnt free (blah blah blah)

$1,99 isnt free, alright, but we have a amazing function on iPhone called "print screen" you just need choose it favourite effect, touch on image and BAM, print screen

Excellent

This app will help you to appreciate the value of black photography.

Its unique

Its an unique application that Ive seen .

Good start, quality output

First of all, the app is free to use and save photos if you only use the film presets. Its 1.99 if you want to use curves, fade, or vignette. That aside, its an interesting start for the app, I hope its developed further. Simply BW is free and offers more adjustments. Im I liked the film presets, but they have no grain! HP5 should look grainier that Tri-X. Curves are great, but what about color filters? Use a red to darken skies or green to lighten foliage, for example. If they add a bit more for that $1.99 Ill give it a higher rating.

Great

Great little app. Straightforward, elegant interface.

What about image size??

I appreciate the various emulations of BW film. But I use many of my apps to edit and save my images to print as well as share. The resolution of a saved image to camera roll is 640x640, which is the lowest resolution of any free or paid app I use. I wont use this until I can save full resolution to camera roll. 5/21- purchased it and image size is good. But it does crash saving TIFF files. And grain would be awesome. It would get 5 stars.
